I’m used to flying with low budget airlines where you have to pay extra for your luggage. My main reason: it’s cheap. I hate flights with a stopover, because I think I’d get lost at an unknown airport. For my flight from Bangkok to Amsterdam I was looking into a direct flight. Then I remembered from working at a tour operator that Emirates was quite popular under the Dutch tourists, and most important, it’s cheap! I ended up booking Emirates, but it came with a surprise. A complimentary upgrade!
I have never flown with Emirates before. I booked Emirates because of good reviews and the amount of kgs I could bring. Because I’m packing five years worth of clothes and stuff, I needed a flight with decent priced excess baggage. Luckily Emirates offered Economy Flex Plus with 35kgs total.
At the check-in counter, I got a complimentary upgrade from Bangkok to Dubai. In Dubai it turned out they upgraded me for Dubai-Amsterdam too. I was super excited, because I heard so many great things about Emirates, especially their business class services.
When getting on the flight, I was overwelmed by the size of each Business Class pods. Each pod was located next to the aisle and it was not structured side by side like the seats in economy class are.
The seats can be turned into a flat bed, where flight attendants give you a thin mattress to cover your seat. The seats were spacious, I have never slept so comfortable on a flight before. Each pod comes with a big pillow and good quality blanket, a personal minibar, and a touch screen tv with lots of entertainment to chose from.
In the back of the airplane is a cocktail bar. Yes, a real bar!
Here you can order cocktails, whiskeys, grab some light snacks, and chitchat with fellow business class passengers.
Bangkok – Dubai (night flight)
Because the flight to Dubai was a night flight, we were only served breakfast. A cup of noodles was available at any time, as well as light snacks at the cocktail bar. A flight attendant will walk by to take your order. You can also chose to skip breakfast when you’re still sleeping.
I choose for the cheese and pepper omelette.
Breakfast is served with beautiful cutlery, like in a restaurant. Sorry for the bad light, it was night after all so they didn’t turn on the lights.
Also we were given a small travel pouch with travel essentials from Bvlgari. They had two types of the pouches, one for men and one for women. The women’s pouch contains foldable brush, dental set with Colfate toothpaste, mirror, tissue pack, Bvlgari body lotion, Bvlgari face emulsion, Bvlgari spray, Bvlgari refreshing towel, and of course the pouch, also from Bvlgari.
Dubai-Amsterdam (morning flight)
Also this flight was with A380, but a newer version. The seat felt more spacious (yeah, more more spacious than the previous flight!). Because I’m not that tall, my feet didn’t reach the foot rest. But the seats were adjustable and I could just move it forward by a push of a button. So luxury!
A glass of champagne was served before take off. Of course I had to enjoy this moment while watching a movie.
For this flight, breakfast was served too. Because I already had a good meal on the previous flight, I opted for an express breakfast which served a bread pastry with tea or coffee. For lunch, they served appetizer, main course, and dessert. I booked a low calorie meal beforehand, but if I had known I would be in business class, I wouldn’t book a special meal! Anyway, my appetizer was jumbo shrimp and salad. My main course was salmon with potatoes and mushroom, and dessert was fruit. I was already full from the appetizer so I didn’t think of taking photos of my other two meal haha.
Overall, my first time experience with Emirates was amazing. Never have I ever thought of flying business class in one of the best airlines in the world. I have never felt so comfortable during a flight before. Would I pay for business class? I would if I have a long flight. Laying down flat is the main reason to fly business class. You feel more rested and relaxed. Loving it!
