When I moved from Bangkok to Seoul, I knew I wanted to join a BJJ gym again to pick up my training. Never would I thought Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Seoul would become my second home, and never would I thought my training partners would become my friends. If you are in Seoul, and looking for a place to train, try Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Seoul, the official and first certified training center in South Korea.
If you ask me what my favorite gi brand is, I would say, without a doubt, Fenom Kimonos. Their gis are inexpensive and from good quality. I own two Fenom gis, one black and one white. The black one I’m not using much, as only white gis are allowed in the Gracie Jiu-Jitsu gym. That is why I bought a white gi. I am using it for more than six months now and if you are interested in Fenom kimonos, read more for more information and my opinion!
You might have seen it on my Instagram, if not: I’m entering a BJJ competition. It happens on October 22th, which is in three weeks. Many of you also know that I’m a Gracie Combatives student at Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Seoul, where white belts don’t do sparring. Now if you put all of the information I gave you, you might wonder why the heck would she enter a competition with no sparring experience??
Doing Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu can be scary at first when you’re a girl. Coming into a new gym, not knowing anyone, and suddenly you have that stranger on top of you, armlocking you left and right… On top of that, you are the only woman! Even though BJJ is getting more popular in Korea, you can notice it’s still lacking women. And you will notice that some techniques might not even work on a male opponent, who might be twice as big and heavier than you are. That is why I recommend you to go to Lee Heejin’s Korea Girl’s Jiu-Jitsu Seminar in Seoul!
Back in March I wrote that I was going to join a gym. Well, I went to the gym but didn’t join because in April we would go on holiday and it wouldn’t fit the schedule well so I waited until we were back from our holiday. And now about 1,5 months has passed since I joined Gracie Seoul and it has been ages since I updated you about my GJJ journey hence NN vs Gracie Jiu-Jitsu #2!
Back in March it was announced that Rener Gracie will be dropping by in Seoul to teach his Super Seminar. As a big fan of Gracie jiujitsu and Rener, I had to be there no matter what. Last weekend was the big day. Finally I was going to experience my very first Brazilian jiujitsu seminar. Not knowing what to expect, Shaun and I went to the seminar and we surely didn’t regret a single bit of it!
